Fort Calgary

Start your wanders right at the finish area with historic Fort Calgary, one of our great sponsors. The Fort, designated a national and provincial historic site, is situated on 40 acres of riverside park. This site provides pleasant walking paths and allows visitors a rare glimpse into our past. Costumed interpreters, using 1875 building techniques and tools, build a representation of the original fort and its furnishings. Inside the fort, the interpretive centre offers displays, exhibits, and hands-on interactive learning areas.

Glenbow Museum

The Glenbow focuses on Western Canadian heritage and enhancing its status as Western Canada's foremost cultural institution, serving Alberta and beyond. Its geographic focus is the northwestern quadrant of North America, but it also presents material from other regions of Canada and the world.

Heritage Park

Heritage Park is an exciting representation of pre-1914 Western Canada. Canada's largest living historical village is a first class summer tourist attraction. Visitors can journey back in time to experience the sights, sounds, and sensations of Canada's pioneer West. At Heritage Park, you can ride behind a thundering steam locomotive or watch the town's blacksmith mould steel. Heritage Park is brimming with old-fashioned family fun.

Head-smashed-in Buffalo Jump

Venturing beyond the city, you can take in historic sites like Head-smashed-in Buffulo Jump, the world's oldest, largest, and best preserved buffalo jump known to exist. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, Head-Smashed-In has been used continuously by aboriginal peoples of the plains for more than 5,500 years.

Royal Tyrell Museum of Paleontology

If you wish to travel even further back in time one can make the drive East of Calgary to Drumhellor and the Royal Tyrell Museum of Paleontology.The Royal Tyrrell Museum was opened in 1985 and is known the world over as an outstanding palaeontology museum and research facility.

There's been life on Earth for more than 3.5 billion years, so we have a lot to show you: ten signature galleries and feature exhibitions that celebrate the spectacular history and diversity of life on Earth, and the palaeontologists who bring the story to life.

As you begin your journey through geological time, you'll experience the evolution of life. Championship Chuckwagon Racing
You’ve never seen anything like it! Sixteen spirited horses aligned and anxious. Four determined drivers and their teams of primed outriders. The Klaxon sounds. And they’re off! Each evening, nine heart-stopping chuckwagon races explode in an all out dash for the finish line. Chuckwagon Racing is an amazing contest of nerves and horsepower – a challenge that ignites thousands of fans. This sport is straight from the pages of western history and comes alive right before your eyes.

Grandstand Show Spectacular!
As the sun goes down, the stars come out for a gigantic 90 minute outdoor stage show featuring hundreds of singers, dancers and musicians who will dazzle you in a lavishly produced and choreographed non-stop musical variety spectacular. The evening finishes with the Fireworks Spectacular “Lights Up The Night” that leaves you feeling you’ve truly seen “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.”
