A Marathon for Kids Absolutely!

It’s the TIMBITS Marathon! A unique format that allows young people to participate in their first marathon. On Monday, April 20, kids start running or walking their marathon one KM at a time completing 41 KM by Sunday, May 31. On race day the kids will complete the last 1.2 KM of their marathon along with elite and citizen runners at the HSBC Calgary Marathon.

All TIMBITS Marathon participants receive a competitors 100% cotton t-shirt, a race bib, a medal when they cross the finish line and a certificate of completion that will be available on-line after the event. And best of all they have their very own kids coach and training program.

Why run the TIMBITS Marathon?

1. It's a great way to have fun!
2. Running and walking makes you physically fit.
3. You can run or walk anytime and anywhere.
4. You don't need special equipment!
5. And you get to be part of Canada's oldest Marathon!

How do you get started?

It's easy, the first thing you need to do is set your goal to complete the marathon. You register and begin running under the guidance of a parent, adult, coach, teacher, etc. six weeks prior to race day, May 31, 2009. You have six weeks to complete 41 KM. Your start date will be Monday, April 20.

How do I complete 41 KM in six weeks? Follow the suggested TIMBITS Marathon Training Program or make up your own and keep track of the KM you've completed using the Kilo-Clocker.

You can run/walk a little or a lot, do what you are comfortable completing. The most important thing is to pace yourself, you want to be able to run the final 1.2 KM on race day.
